The Uptown Theater is a well-preserved example of atmospheric theater design, a style popular in the 1920s. It was designed by John Eberson, an Austrian-born architect known for creating immersive, themed theaters that transported audiences to exotic locations.
The Uptown's interior was designed to resemble an outdoor Mediterranean courtyard, complete with faux balconies, painted skies with twinkling stars, and mechanical birds that once flew across the ceiling.
