The Armour-Swift-Burlington (ASB) Bridge, opened in 1911, played a central role in shaping transportation across the Missouri River in Kansas City. Designed by noted engineer John Alexander Low Waddell, the ASB Bridge was a unique two-level vertical lift bridge that carried trains on the lower deck and vehicles, pedestrians, and even streetcars on the upper level. Its innovative design and continued use today make it one of the most significant bridges in Kansas City's history.
