BONUS: The Peanut in Quality Hill
A trip to Quality Hill isn't complete without a stop by The Peanut for a plate of their iconic wings or a bite of their famous BLT.

A classic American dive bar, The Peanut has been a beloved institution for nearly a century. The story began in 1933 when Louis and Eula D. Stone opened their tavern at 50th & Main Street, initially known as Plaza Buffet and Bar-B-Q before adopting the name "The Peanut Barbecue."
Prior to it's formal founding, The Peanut on Main was a speakeasy during Prohibition, and it’s rumored that location has the oldest continual liquor license in KC.
Louis and Eula's legacy continued after their passing in 1966 when Eula's brother, Bill McKenzie, took the reins. Bill introduced the famous Big Boy sandwich and brought a small change by selling peanuts in paper bags during the 1970s.
In 1981, Rich Kenny, along with his wife Melinda, ventured to Kansas City from Omaha. They acquired The Peanut and maintained its essence as a welcoming "enter-who-may" bar. Melinda's BLT and the signature buffalo wings instantly became legendary staples.
In 1998, the Kennys licensed The Peanut name, leading to multiple locations across the Kansas City metro. While Rich passed away in 2007, Melinda continues to own the original Peanut and the location at 418 W 9th Street, pictured above.
The Peanut is truly a quintessential Kansas City institution, offering quality food and a come-as-you-are atmosphere.
